Stacy Stephens Levy - Connecting for Communication, LLC

Stacy has over 11 years of specialized experience working with children with neurological and developmental differences.  She received both her Master of Science in Speech and Hearing Sciences and her Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  After completing her graduate studies, she worked in the Fulton County School System where she provided traditional speech-language therapy directly to the students, provided in-class therapy to children in self-contained classrooms, and collaborated with teachers to run a pilot school-wide phonemic awareness program for kindergarten, first and second grade students.  Three years later, she later taught a self–contained special education class for children with autism and significant language learning impairments. In this role as a special educator, she was awarded with the following two awards in 2005: River Eves Elementary Teacher of the Year and Fulton County Elementary School Teacher of the Year.  Upon moving to Baton Rouge, LA, Stacy was chosen to work for a multi-disciplinary clinic.  There she worked alongside some of the city’s best occupational and physical therapists while providing cutting-edge therapy for clients.  Stacy was promoted to Director of the Speech-Language Department after three years of employment.  In this role, she supervised experienced therapists, new graduates, and graduate students completing internships, while maintaining a full caseload of clients.

Stacy’s vast experience of providing speech-language therapy in a variety of settings has allowed her to work with hundreds of people diagnosed with autism, language disorders, dyslexia and processing difficulties.  She has received extensive training in a variety of programs including (but not limited to): Lindamood-Bell Visualizing and Verbalizing®, Seeing Stars®, LiPS®, SCERTS®, RDI®, The Kaufman Speech To Language Protocol, SPELL-Links to Reading and Writing®, PECS, Beckman Oral Motor Protocol, Whole to Part Method, and SRA Reading Mastery®.  She holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech and Hearing Association and licensure in Louisiana and Georgia. Stacy actively participates in the American Speech and Hearing Association’s Special Interest Division 1 specialized for Language Learning and Education, as well as the SpellTalk Discussion Group specialized in improving the encoding and decoding processes for students.  She is a member of the Autism Society of America and International Dyslexia Association.

Stacy received her Relationship Development Intervention (RDI®) program certification in March 2008. She is one of the two RDI® Program Certified Consultants in the state of Louisiana. Stacy worked hard to become certified and continues to fulfill annual recertification requirements in the RDI® Program.  Since receiving her certification, she has worked with families and their children with a diagnosis of autism or related disorders empowering parents to serve as their child's primary interventionist. Stacy recently began the certification process to become a Masgutova NeuroSensorimotor Reflex Integration Core Specialist.

Stacy has spent three years working with the Junior League of Baton Rouge and Families Helping Families of Greater Baton Rouge on the creation of the Resource Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders, RCASD (www.rcasd.org).  She chaired the Junior League’s RCASD committee in 2010 and 2011. Stacy continues to volunteer her time through the Junior League.  In her spare time, Stacy enjoys presenting locally and state-wide to a variety of audiences ranging from parents to professionals.  When not involving herself in the Baton Rouge community, she enjoys spending time traveling with her husband, Damon.

“I feel privileged to have worked with every one of my clients and their families. Just as they have learned from me, I have also learned from each of them. Thank you for these gifts you have given me over the years. Every day I receive confirmation that I have the best job in the world!”

If I had to summarize in one sentence what I have learned over the years, it would be, “Listen to what is not being said to truly understand...”
