Many individuals with a neurodevelopmental disorder (including autism, PPD, ADHD, Asperger’s, OCD but also traditional language disorders such as semantic-pragmatic disorder, nonverbal learning disorder, receptive-expressive disorders, dyslexia, and others) have a system that is not processing information from the body (i.e. touch, taste, sound, sight, smell, as well as vestibular and proprioceptive information) in the most efficient manner. This often times is causing the observable difficulties of the child and impacting their ability to learn and benefit optimally from others and the environment. It is critical to assess the entire system (cognitive, reflex, sensory, and motor development but also the environment and guiding relationship) and customize the therapy plan in order to ensure optimal development.

The assessment process is geared at determining the CAUSES behind the apparent symptoms. By identifying the underlying CORE ISSUES, the therapy process is more efficient and progress has a broader reach in the overall development of the child. The assessment process is intended to establish a baseline for services and work with parent concerns to develop a comprehensive plan of care. Information obtained from this process is also used to develop recommendations and accommodations for a variety of settings depending on the client. |
